Limb Bud - Sensory Somite Growth
Note how the appendage somites are pushed, distally. The upper extremity pushes out between C5 and T1. The most distal are pairs C7 and C8. These innervate the hand. C6 and T 1 are found on the forearm. This brings dermatome segments C5 and T2 to be positioned adjacent to each other. In the lower extremity, L2 and S3 are adjacent to each other along the trunk. L3 and S2 pairs are carried distal with the L4 and S1 pairs even more distal onto the foot.
