CNS motoneurons in the spinal cord and of cranial nerve nuclei in the brainstem project to skeletal muscle as controllers of reflexes and programmed movements.
CNS motoneurons in the spinal cord and of cranial nerve nuclei in the brainstem project to skeletal muscle as controllers of reflexes and programmed movements.
A second CNS motor system is autonomic motor neurons of the thoracic cord and from cranial nerves. These sympathetic and parasympathetic neurons synapse on PNS motoneurons in peripheral ganglia.
The secondary autonomic PNS neurons synapse on smooth muscle, cardiac muscle or glands. The two systems are separated, peripherally, as sympathetic with the origin from the T1 - L2 cord and parasympathetic from cranial nerves as well as 3 sacral segments.
