The Synapse
Synapses are classically defined by synaptic structures: vesicles, pre- and post-synaptic membrane specializations, and synaptic cleft. The postsynaptic membrane on the dendritic side holds the receptors for detecting transmitters being released by the axon. Release of transmitters from vesicles occur by membranes of the vesicle fusing with the presynaptic Mbrs.
