The Edinger-Westphal nucleus is the preganglionic parasympathetic system for the eye and is considered to be rostral to the 3rd motor nuclei. EW acts in pupil constriction and accommodation by changing the shape of the pupil and to converge the eyes for close vision. Close focus rounds the lens through relaxing the ciliary body.
