The 3rd, 7th, 9th & 10th nerves carry parasympathetic visceral motor and sensory functions for the PNS.
The 3rd, 7th, 9th & 10th nerves carry parasympathetic visceral motor and sensory functions for the PNS.
Two neurons make-up the motor system:
- First neuron is in the brainstem or sacral cord.
- Second neuron is in a cranial ganglion or in the innervated organ wall.
Cranial motor components are in 3, 7, 9, 10, and sacral nerves 2-4
- Constricts the pupil, 3th
- Saliva production 7, 9th
- Nasal mucosa 7th
- Slow the heart 10th
- Constrict the bronchi 10th
- Increase gut secretion & motility 10th
- Enhance genital function Sacral
- Bladder and rectal control Sacral
The sensory components are bipolar neurons in nerve ganglia with synapses in the brainstem.
