Spinal Cord Shape/Size Changes
- Brachial and lumbosacral enlargements of the ventral and dorsal horns. (C5-T1 & L4-S3)
- Clarkes column T1 - L2
- Lateral horn (T1-L2) extends laterally at the level of the central canal.
- Progressive increase in the white mater toward the brainstem.
- The dorsal column enlarges due to adding ascending axons.
- Pain pathway increases in size as it ascends and enlarges for limb sensitivity.
- A cerebellar afferent pathway originates from the Clarkes column nucleus at T1 - L2 and axons ascends.
- Descending pathways lose fibers.
