DEEP RECEPTOR ORGAN
Pacinian Corpuscle
Sensory nerve endings in deep tissues are formed around a sensory axon, the teledendrion. Supporting cells surround the receptor teledendron in an onion skin manner. These accessory cells are thus responsible for detection of directional pressures on the receptor endorgan. Depolarization occurs with axon flattening while hyperpolarization occurs when the axons are rounded. Like a balloon, the smallest surface area occurs in rounded shapes while flattening stretches the axonal membrane.
