Neuronal Somata

• A prominent nucleolus marks the nucleus, and Nissl substance (ribosomes) fill the cytoplasm. The nuclear and cytoplasmic membranes are not visible in light microcopy.

• Glia and supporting cell nuclei are also present. Schwann cell nuclei are elongated and are related to PNS myelinated nerve fibers either passing by or emerging from the neurons.
