Glial Skeleton (Cellular Components)

Price: Free

The NERVOUS SYSTEM lacks connective tissue and bone, however, the skull and vertebral canal act as an exoskeleton. The glial cellular organization of the nervous system comprises an internal skeleton that supports neurons metabolically, functionally and structurally. Astrocytes and oligodendroglia are supporting cells in the CNS while satellite cells, connective tissue and Schwann cells are supporting cells in the PNS.

Gliamyelin (Cellular Components)

Price: Free

Glia in the CNS and PNS form myelin wrappings of neuronal axons. Oligodendroglia of the CNS and Schwann cells of the PNS interact with neurons in different ways to produce myelination of axons. The role of myelin is to speed action potential conduction on axons.

Neuronal Architecture (Cellular Components)

Price: Free

Neurons are soma's consisting of a nucleus and cytoplasmic envelop that can secrete an active agent known as a transmitter. The cytoplasm is contained in a plasma membrane that can extend some distance from the soma as either an axon, effector pole or as dendrites, receptor pole.
